Sang Hyuk Son is the third President of Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST). President Son received his B.S. degree in the field of Electronics Engineering from the Seoul National University and M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Then, he continued his study in Computer Science at the University of Maryland and received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. In 2012, he joined DGIST after serving as professor of computer science at the University of Virginia for twenty seven years. In recognition of his excellence in education and research, he was appointed as DGIST Fellow and had served numerous administrative and research leadership positions including, Department Chair of Information and Communication Engineering, Dean of Graduate School, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Director of Cyber Physical Systems Global Center. He also has been involved in various professional societies and activities, demonstrating strong sense of academic leadership in his field of expertise. As a respected scholar in IT fields, which would be the key area in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, he published and presented over 300 papers at numerous journals, international conferences, and forums. He is an IEEE Fellow, a Fellow of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology. He has also played advisory roles to the Korea’s Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology and the Samsung Research Funding Center for Future Technology.
